Greta Thunberg Gains Freedom After Detention at London Protests
Thunberg was granted bail after being taken into custody for carrying a placard that stated: "I support Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide," according to the Prisoners For Palestine collective on US social media platform X.
The organization mentioned that two demonstrators who disrupted operations at Aspen Insurance in solidarity with the hunger strikers remain held at Bishopsgate police station.
At 22 years old, Thunberg was apprehended by law enforcement officers outside Aspen’s headquarters, which the group alleges provides services to Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems.
Authorities detained her under the Terrorism Act for displaying a sign that read: "I support Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide."
City of London Police explained on US social media platform X: "She has been arrested for displaying an item (in this case a placard) in support of a proscribed organisation (in this case Palestine Action) contrary to Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000."
Meanwhile, several activists sprayed red paint across the building’s façade before being taken into custody.
This demonstration unfolded amid growing public criticism of the government regarding the condition of six prisoners associated with the outlawed group Palestine Action, who have been on a hunger strike since November.
